SOFTIMAGE|XSI Certified Graphics Cards

Softimage is constantly evaluating new hardware in order to ensure the best overall animation production experience. Follow the links below to find out which graphics cards are certified for your version of XSI and operating system.

SOFTIMAGE®|XSI® v.5.x/v.6.x

Notes on XSI Realtime Shader support:

The most advanced types of XSI Realtime Shaders require:

  • OpenGL 1.5 compliant graphics card
  • Cg Compiler 1.4 for XSI v.5.0 or Cg Compiler 1.5 for XSI v.5.1/v.6.x
  • DirectX 9c or DirectX 10 for DirectX 10 realtime shaders in XSI v.6.x (not applicable for Linux)

Some of the older generation graphics cards may not support all the above and thus may be missing certain Realtime Shader functionality.

Notes on 64-Bit:

It is recommended that you install the 32-bit version of XSI on a supported 32-bit operating system, and the 64-bit version of XSI on a supported 64-bit operating system. Softimage does not officially support 32-bit applications running on 64-bit operating systems.

Notes on Linux:

For officially supported OS flavors and other details, please see the guidelines from our System Requirements section.

SOFTIMAGE®|XSI® v.4.2/v.4.0

Notes on XSI Realtime Shader support:

The most advanced types of XSI v.4.2/v.4.0 Realtime Shaders require:

  • OpenGL 1.5 compliant graphics card
  • Cg Compiler 1.2.1
  • DirectX 9b (not applicable for Linux)

Some of the older generation graphics cards may not support all the above and thus may be missing certain Realtime Shader functionality.

Notes on Windows 2000:

Although all Windows OS based testing is now performed on Windows XP Pro, most XSI v.4.2/v.4.0 card/driver certifications for Windows XP Pro are also valid for Windows 2000.  In fact, most display drivers for both Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 are actually contained within the same driver package.

Notes on Linux:

Softimage officially only supports Red Hat Linux flavors. But, by following the guidelines from our System Requirements section, you should also be able to run XSI on other Linux distributions/flavors.

Notes on Certification

Certification is performed mainly at 1280x1024 single screen resolution at 32bpp pixel depth.

Some testing is also done at 1600x1200 single screen resolution and we will try to address any issues reported with this resolution if it shows serious anomalies.

We will also try to address any issues with dual screen resolutions (2560x1024 or 3200x1200) coming from a single graphics card (AGP or PCI Express)
